Odin’s Apple Deer Attractant & Cover Scent – Liquid delivers the familiar, sweet aroma of ripe apples—acting as both a food lure and a natural-smelling cover scent. This synthetic, oil-based formula resists wash-off, polymerizes on air contact for steady scent dispersion, and maintains attraction for up to 7 days. Perfectly versatile—use it to lay scent trails, mask your presence, or layer with Beads for lasting cover.

Pro tip: Layer Apple Liquid ahead of Apple Scent Beads to pull game in quickly and keep them returning for days.

Food Scent Attractants for Deer: Better Results, Fewer Trips, Less Cost

Corn is common, available and you have a history...but it is not the most cost-effective food source to attract deer! Is taking out day-old donuts to attract bear very efficient? Again, no. So, what is the best way to use attractants?  Quit taking multiple trips dropping off attractants that are going to be consumed before you wake up the next morning.

The price of a bag of corn compared to the cost of a bottle of Odin’s lure scents isn’t the only costs to compare. Every trip back out to your site costs time and money, especially with the price of gas? Once you put out your Odin’s synthetic food scent beads they will remain effective continuously for 30-days! Unlike corn or other baits that require frequent replenishment and violate some state’s baiting laws.

Wouldn’t you rather just sit back and watch the pictures come in from your cellular trail camera?  Put one bottle of Odin’s food scent attractants in front of your cellular trail camera and you can see images of your prey look for the source of the “food” scent. Or you can watch them enjoy the snack you brought them while you plan your next trip and then carry another 50 lb. bag of corn to your spot.

The synthetic food aromas are potent and will draw whitetails to specific locations for trail camera monitoring, pre-season scouting, and hunting setups. As the scent molecules release, the aroma is consistent over the entire time.  Use what is effective for your area.  And, with the many options, try others that may not be as obvious or is not available in your area. Apple, acorn, persimmon, peanut butter, corn, pear for deer. For bear, try jelly donut, peanut butter, anise or blackstrap molasses. We are field testing Maple Bacon during a spring bear hunt in May....let us know what you think?  Hogs/feral pigs, who knew that pear would be the most effective scent to attract hogs? The peanut butter and blackstrap molasses, too. Read our Hog Scent Field Trial report.

Why Food Scent Beads Outperform Traditional Attractants

Out performance is a combination of attraction and cost. Does a synthetic scent of a food stay stronger than a natural food? Synthetic scents in beads remain the same “strength” for the entire time. How long do you think the scent of an apple or a pile of corn remain...if it is not eaten within 24 hours?

The cost comparison is stark. A season of corn-based baiting typically costs $330 and requires 20 field visits for replenishment. Odin’s biodegradable food scent beads cost $225 for the same season coverage with only 4 field visits — 32% less cost and 80% fewer trips to your site. Every trip to your hunting location deposits human scent, disturbs the area, and educates deer. Fewer visits mean less pressure and more natural deer movement patterns.

Available Food Scent Profiles

Odin’s food scent attractants are available in both scent beads (30-day extended release) and 4 oz liquid (7–10-day, immediate dispersal). Use beads as your base deployment and liquid to create trails leading to the location.

Apple: Mimics the scent of ripe apples. Effective from summer through winter. Strong draw in regions where apple trees are part of the natural landscape. Pairs well with trail camera setups for early-season inventory.

Acorn: Replicates the aroma of fresh acorns, the single most important natural food source for whitetails across most of North America. Deploy near oak ridges and travel corridors between bedding and feeding areas.

Peanut Butter: A curiosity attractant that deer investigate aggressively. Particularly effective in areas where peanuts or peanut-based feeds are not naturally occurring — the novelty factor draws deer to investigate.

Persimmon: Popular in southeastern states where wild persimmon trees are a primary food source. Creates a natural-feeling food scent that doesn’t alarm deer the way artificial feeding stations can.

Molasses: Sweet scent that deer associate with supplemental feeding. Works well as a trail-to-site scent in liquid form. Mix with other food scent beads for a multi-scent deployment.

Jelly Donut: Another scent that is associated with sweet food that is especially attractive to bear and hogs. The liquid is oil based and will stick to their paws / hoofs, and they will extend a trail wherever they walk.

Pear: Sweet scent that deer love but has limited availability. When hog hunting, it has consistently brought them out during the day. Mix with other food scent beads for a multi-scent deployment.

Maple Bacon: NEW.  This is being tested during a spring bear hunt in Canada.  Let us know if you would like us to add this to the selection.

The Trail Camera Advantage

Long lasting food scents and trail cameras are a natural pairing.... a “match made in heaven”. Sprinkle 3 oz of scent beads across a 4’ x 4’ area in front of your trail camera. The 30-day release means the camera captures deer activity at your site continuously without you disturbing the area and reintroducing your human scent every time you need to refresh the bait. You get a month of trail camera data from a single application of scent......30 continuous days attracting your prey. Compare this to corn, which requires replenishment at least every 3–5 days during warm weather as it normally gets consumed in a couple of days.  If not, it rots or gets eaten by all the other little critters in the area.

So, if your food pile lasts for 3 days, compare the cost of 10 bags of corn, the time for 10 round trips and the gasoline to a bottle of Odin’s scent beads.

Baiting Laws and Scent Attractants

Is baiting legal in my state? In many states, baiting deer with food (corn, minerals, feed, anything containing salt) is restricted or illegal. To be considered “bait” in most states, it must “be intended for consumption, provide nutritional value or contain salt.” Odin’s don’t have any of these — they produce an aroma that attracts deer to investigate.

In most jurisdictions, scent attractants are legal even where baiting is not. However, regulations vary by state and sometimes by county or wildlife management area. Always check your state’s specific regulations before deploying any attractant. Odin’s synthetic food scents are not classified as bait in most states because they contain no consumable food material.

How to Use Odin’s Food Scent Attractants

1.     Sprinkle approximately 3 oz of scent beads evenly across a 4’ x 4’ area at your target location.   Place beads in front of trail cameras for 30+ days of continuous monitoring.   Use liquid to create scent trails leading to the bead deployment — squirt on trees, brush, and the ground along natural travel routes.   For bear and feral pig hunting: apply liquid generously and let the animals walk through the oil-based scent. They will track it in every direction they go, creating a natural scent distribution network.

Biodegradable, USDA BioPreferred Certified, and Rain-Proof

We are big fans of the earth! A core component of our products is that it will not leave the beautiful places hunting takes us worse off than when we arrived. We even trademarked BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT™.  Odin’s synthetic scent materials offer environmental benefits that other materials cannot match.

  •        We don’t leave any plastic behind.
  •        We don’t use any unhealthy chemicals – even our Citronella is DEET free!
  •        The plant-based polymer biodegrades. Nothing is left behind.
  •        The beads are certified through the USDA’s BioPreferred Program — a rigorous, third-party verification of biobased content. We did not settle for marketing claims about being “green” — we submitted our products to the USDA’s testing and passed to be able to legally use the description USDA Certified.
  •        The polymer is rain proof. Heavy dew, rain, and snow do not degrade scent output.
  •        We believe hunters should be able to use effective products without compromising the land they love.

FAQs

Q: Will deer keep coming back when they don’t find food?

We wondered the same thing! So, in 2019 we tested the Odin’s Apple scented beads with an outfitter (managing 500-acres in the Ohio River Valley and Northern Kentucky) to determine if:

  1.  Did it work?  Yes!
  2.  Would they keep coming back?  Yes, we started in May, and the deer continued to visit clear up to the rut. (then we think it was our Odin’s pheromones that was bringing them in.)
  3. Would they (or other critters) consume the beads?  No. We had about 35 trail cameras across multiple sites and we found no evidence of them eating the beads nor did we witness any negligible reduction in the bead piles.

Q: What other scents do deer like?

It depends on where you live and what the deer feels like that day! Deer are attracted to many different food sources, indigenous to the area, or not.

Apple works everywhere.  Acorn is great unless you’ve had a good harvest, then we can’t compete with Mother Nature’s blanket of acorns. Peanut butter, Persimmon and Pear scents have all worked well, even in areas where it is not a naturally occurring food source. The novelty factor drives investigation. Odin’s synthetic scent accurately replicates the intended scent and retains its strength the entire effect time.

Q: Do deer like Peanut Butter?

That’s a frequently asked question.  From our experience, “sometimes”.  Mother Nature is fickle. We’ve had it do great in one spot, and 70-miles over in the next county, nothing.

Q: What is the best deer attractant for trail cameras?

The best trail camera attractant is one that draws deer consistently over an extended period without requiring frequent replenishment visits. Many can also create a trail toward the camera placement to start patterning. The Odin’s liquid is good for creating a trail and also used to squirt on foliage to let the wind carry a stronger scent.

Odin’s food scent beads release scent for 30+ days from a single deployment, giving you a full month of trail camera data from one visit. This also minimizes human scent disturbance at your camera site.

Q: Are scent attractants considered baiting?

In most states, scent attractants are not classified as bait because they contain no consumable food material. They produce an aroma that attracts deer to investigate but provide no nutritional value. However, regulations vary by state. Always check your state’s specific baiting and attractant regulations before deploying.

Q: Is corn or scent attractant better for deer?

Scent attractants offer significant advantages over corn: 80% fewer field visits (4 vs 20 per season), 32% lower cost ($225 vs $330), no spoilage or mold in warm weather, no risk of attracting raccoons and other non-target animals to the same degree, and legal in many jurisdictions where corn baiting is restricted.

 Q. Apple Scent work on species other than deer?
While primarily a deer attractant, hunters also report solid results with hogs and bears in mixed-game areas. Always verify local regulations.

Q. How long does one application last?
Up to 30 days, thanks to a controlled, slow-release design that steadily disperses aroma.

Q. Why use scent beads instead of liquid attractants?
Unlike liquids that can spill, evaporate, or dilute, Odin’s polymer bead system provides cleaner handling and a consistent 30-day release for reliable attraction.
